Workshop: Tips and Tricks for Freelance Conference Interpreters

February 23 @ 10:00 am - 12:30 pm

$50 – $90

Join us to welcome Cyril Flerov back to San Francisco to present an exciting workshop on tips and tricks for freelance conference interpreters. Cyril will share tips on how to prepare for assignments, how to travel, booth etiquette, negotiations and contracts.

You will learn:

  • Strategies to prepare for an assignment.
  •   “Road warrior” skills: how to negotiate airports faster, what to pack and what not to pack, international travel, traveling with just a carry on for short trips, etc.
  •   Subtle and not so subtle rules of booth etiquette. Are you upset if your boothmate is using a laptop in the booth and clicking distracts you? What to discuss before you start interpreting? What must you do as soon as you are done with your shift and take off your headset? What irritates audio technicians the most? All will be revealed.
  • Negotiations and contracts: There are some basic things that interpreters and translators need to know about contracting. Ethics and managing assignments also play an important role.
