Workshop: How to Start your Translator and Interpreter Career

For anyone in Northern California or the Bay Area looking to learn more about how to start your translator and interpreter career, join us on Saturday, November 2nd at Evergreen Valley College in San Jose from 10:00 am-12:30 pm.

Translation:

Are you considering a career as a freelance translator? Are you already working in translation but looking for tips on how to become more successful? In this workshop, Michael Schubert shares his experience from 20 years as a full-time, independent translator:

  • What are the core skills you need to become successful?
  • How can you best market yourself and find clients?
  • Ho do you set your prices and escape the bottom market?
  • Once you establish your translation empire, how do you keep thriving?

Workshop attendees will be encourage to ask questions and participate in the discussion!

Presenter:

Michael Schubert is an ATA-certified German-to-English translator based in San Francisco providing premium translation services with a focus on corporate communications, information technology, and finance. He is also an Adjunct Professor for German-to-English translation at MIIS Monterey. More at www.michaelschubert.com.

Interpreting:

Are you interested in becoming an interpreter? Join us to learn how to start a career as a healthcare, legal, educational and community interpreter. We will review the certification process for healthcare and legal interpreters and the professional development opportunities available for interpreters. You will learn specific tools to market yourself, set your rates, and find new clients. We will discuss the current job market for interpreters and how to thrive in this profession.

Edit photoJudit Marin is a freelance Spanish interpreter, translator, and trainer based in Northern California. She is an ATA-certified (English>Spanish) translator and a California Certified Medical Interpreter. She holds an M.A. in Spanish from U.C. Santa Barbara and a B.A. in Catalan Philology from the University of Barcelona. She currently serves as Vice President and Continuing Education Director for the Northern California Translators Association (NCTA). She received the Interpreter of the Year Award from the California Healthcare Interpreting Association (CHIA), at their annual conference in 2018. RegistrationEarly payment is advised in order to secure participation and help reach the workshop minimum participation. Unfortunately, workshops may occasionally have to be canceled or rescheduled if the confirmed participation in advance is very low. NCTA will not be responsible for any consequential losses to participants arising from this.

Cancellation policy: Refunds are issued only if notice of cancellation is received one week prior to the applicable workshop date. A cancellation fee of $10 is charged for all cancellations.
