After a long hiatus, the Spanish-English Book Club is resuming!
Our modus operandi:
We pick a book that has been originally written in Spanish during the last 10 or 15 years and that has been translated into English. We want to read the new Latin American and Iberian literature!
We’ll have 5 or 6 weeks to read the selected book either in its original Spanish version, in its English translation or both. That’s the fun thing here—it’s totally up to you! You can choose to read the book either in Spanish, in English or both!
When it’s time for our book discussion, we’ll meet in Ohlone Park, 15 minutes away from Downtown Berkeley BART station and 10 minutes away from North Berkeley BART station.
During the meeting, we can have bilingual discussions on different aspects of the book, including topics that might be interesting to translators, such as linguistic, stylistic and cultural choices made in translation or choices you would make in tricky passages if you had been the translator.
Our next meeting:
We will read Tuya/All Yours by Claudia Piñeiro (review in Spanish here, review in English here). We will meet in Ohlone Park, on Saturday, March 19th from 10 am to 12 pm. Please RSVP for details on the exact place and how to find us.
Happy bilingual reading and we hope to see you soon!
